Teacher of the Year
I am completing my 24th year as an educator. I graduated from Texas Women's University and began teaching in 2001. I am married to my wonderful husband, Ken Smith, and together we have five children, Korin, Kamen, Dailey, Kaden, and Beckett. We have gained three more through our children's marriages, Bryanna, Kassi, and Daultin, and also three beautiful grandbabies, Katara, Kora, and Evander. I grew up in Monahans, and still live there. I love teaching kids and seeing them grasp onto new ideas and run with it. I try very hard to not just teach kids the basics but to also instill in each that they can do anything they set their minds to, they just have to figure out how. A quote I refer to often is "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars," by Norman Vincent Peale. I think this shows that we are all capable of greatness.
